Selçuk Kişmir // Principal - Founder__________________________________________

Selçuk Kişmir was born in Istanbul. He studied Architecture at Yıldız Technical University and completed his degree of Master in Advanced Architecture at IAAC, Barcelona.

During his time at IAAC, he experienced digital tools and parametricism in architecture for both fabrication and design. He has participated in many international lectures, produced different scales of experimental architecture, and completed international collaborative studios with SCI-Arc.


* Selçuk Kişmir, Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi Mimarlık Fakültesi’nden onur öğrencisi olarak 2012 yılında mezun oldu. Yüksek linsansını ise ‘Master in Advanced Architecture’ programıyla IAAC (Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia), Barselona’da tamamladı. 


IAAC ‘taki sürecinde; dijital tasarım ve üretim araçlarını deneyimleme ve mimarlıkta parametrisizm ve algoritmalar üzerine pratik fırsatını bulmuştur. Uluslarası isimlerle yürütülen seminer serilerini paralel olarak tamamlarken, çeşitli ölçeklerde deneysel mimarlık işleri üretme fırsatı yakalamıştır.


2017 yılından beri kurucusu olduğu Fabric.a Architects bünyesinde mimari çalışmalarını sürdürmektedir. 
Kariyeri boyunca çeşitli ulusal ve uluslarası yarışmalardan birçok ödül kazanmıştır ve misafir öğretim görevlisi olarak farklı üniversitelerde görev almaktadır.

Zlatica Forest Park is envisioned as a shelter for all, a renewed urban woodland where nature and community grow together. The proposal seeks to heal the site’s fragmented landscape, restore ecological balance, and strengthen its role as one of Podgorica’s most significant green assets. By preserving existing vegetation and introducing a richer, more diverse planting palette, the park becomes a lush and immersive environment where visitors can experience both belonging and discovery. The design embraces the dual character of the forest — its openness and density, its calm and activity — creating a living refuge that supports wellbeing for both people and the landscape.

The project introduces a clear, three-layered circulation framework that defines the movement and experience of the park. The Urban Promenade acts as the main spine, connecting key entrances, plazas, neighborhood parks, sports zones, and the observation tower. Encircling the inner landscape, the Forest Promenade forms the social heart of the park, weaving around major public spaces such as the Forest Plaza, lake area, meadow, and children’s discovery zone. Further inward, the Woodland Route offers a quieter, more intimate encounter with nature, where small rest areas and shaded nodes create a rhythm of retreat and pause.

Activities throughout the park are intentionally placed to create a balanced and inclusive network. Rather than filling the landscape with programs, the design cultivates meaningful nodes shaped by the flow of paths and clearings. Spaces for sports, play, gathering, and contemplation are distributed across the promenades, ensuring accessibility for all ages and communities while preserving the sensory richness of the woodland. This layered experience strengthens the park’s social sustainability, allowing it to evolve with the rhythms of everyday life and seasonal change.

A holistic sustainability strategy underpins the entire project. Native and Mediterranean plant species, mixed-age woodland layers, and ecological buffers support biodiversity and resilience. Permeable surfaces, natural materials, and soil regeneration measures ensure sensitive water management and low-impact construction. Wood and Corten steel establish a coherent architectural identity, while passive shading and low-energy lighting reinforce the park’s environmental performance. Together, these elements shape a resilient, self-sustaining urban forest that repositions the site as a vital ecological and social landscape for Podgorica.

Zlatica Forest Park, kent ve doğa ilişkisini mevcut bir yeşil alanın ekolojik ve işlevsel restorasyonu üzerinden yeniden tanımlamayı hedefler. Öneri, alanın süreksiz ve homojen peyzaj yapısını iyileştirmeyi, ekolojik denge ve çeşitliliği yeniden kurmayı ve Podgorica’nın en önemli yeşil alanlarından biri olarak konumunu güçlendirmeyi amaçlar. Proje, Halep çamı ve servi ağaçlarından oluşan monokültürel dokuya zengin ve çeşitli yeni bir doğal peyzaj katmanı ekleyerek parkı; rekreasyon aktivitelerinin yanı sıra keşif duygusunun da deneyimlenebileceği, yoğun ve sürükleyici bir orman karakterine dönüştürmeyi hedefler. Tasarım, açıklık–yoğunluk ve dinginlik–canlılık gibi karşıtlıkların dengeli bir kürasyonu ile hem insanlar hem de doğal çevre için iyilik halini destekleyen, canlı bir doğal sığınak yaratmayı amaçlar.


Projede, ziyaretçi deneyimini yönlendiren ve bitkisel peyzajla uyumlu üç katmanlı yalın bir sirkülasyon sistemi kurgulanmıştır. Kentsel Promenad, ana girişleri, mahalle parklarını, kuzey ve güney spor alanlarını ve gözlem kulesini birbirine bağlayan ana omurga niteliğindedir. Alanın geometrik merkezinde ise orman meydanı, göl alanı, çayır ve çocuk keşif bölgesi gibi kamusal mekânları çevreleyen ve parkın sosyal kalbini oluşturan Orman Promenadı önerilmiştir. Çeperler ile merkez promenad arasındaki yoğun orman karakterinin içinde yer alan Orman Rotası ise parkın doğal peyzajıyla daha sakin, kişisel bir karşılaşma sunar; rota üzerindeki saklı dinlenme noktaları ve düğüm alanlarıyla aynı zamanda sürekli bir fitness ve bisiklet aksı işlevi görür.


Park genelindeki aktiviteler ve odak noktaları, farklı ziyaretçi profillerine ve ilişkili eylemlere cevap verecek şekilde, mevcut ağaç dokusu ve önerilen plantasyon stratejisiyle uyumlu olarak titizlikle planlanmıştır. Spor, keşif, oyun, buluşma ve dinlenme alanları promenadlar boyunca yoğunlaşarak her yaş ve gruptan kullanıcı için erişilebilirlik sağlanmış; buna karşılık, alanın geri kalanında orman karakterinin duyusal atmosferinin korunması hedeflenmiştir. Çok katmanlı bu kurgu ile parkın sosyal sürdürülebilirliğini güçlendirmek ve alanın değişen mevsimler ile günlük ritimler boyunca aktif kullanımının sürekliliğini sağlamak temel hedeflerden biri olmuştur.


Tasarım yaklaşımının merkezinde bütüncül bir sürdürülebilirlik stratejisi yer alır. Yerel coğrafya ve Akdeniz türlerinden seçilen bitkilendirme kataloğu; genç ve olgun doğal peyzajın birlikteliği ve ekolojik geçiş alanlarıyla biyoçeşitlilik ve iklim dayanıklılığını en üst seviyede desteklemeyi amaçlar. Tamamı boşluklu ve geçirgen seçilmiş zemin malzemeleri, doğal malzemeler ve toprak iyileştirme çalışmaları birlikte hassas bir su yönetimini ve asgari düzeyde yapısal müdahaleyi mümkün kılar. Doğal ahşap ve kısmen corten çelik, park genelindeki mimari mekân ve strüktürlerin karakterinin temel malzemeleri olarak benimsenmiştir.

We are at the
dawn of a crucial technological shift from fossil fuel cars to electric
vehicles. The Great climate crisis and environmental concerns we are facing
today calls for some radical action more than ever before. 


For long
decades, the automobile industry has become one of the main actors of
atmospheric pollution. The way the industry changed our lives was so dramatic
that we planned our cities, infrastructure and lives accordingly and hardly
questioned it. All the positive effects and improvements of the advanced
industry have made cars an inevitable part of our daily life and urban
environments.

Today, the
industry is rewriting its history by leading green transformation for a better
future of the planet. Electric vehicles are becoming more affordable and more
common every year.


How should we
as designers and planners respond to this important transformation? 


How can we
rethink our infrastructure and traditional typologies to manifest a more sustainable
and healthier future?
 
The Circle as a vibrant
and sustainable meeting point for EV owners welcomes visitors to a place where
they can experience various functions under one roof in a compact scheme. The
proposal aims to transform the traditional typology of highway rest areas into
a flexible and resizable spatial system that can be adapted for multiple
locations and different capacities. The proposed version with a diameter of 60
meters aims to simulate a prototype of the next generation green EV stations.


From the
formal approach to the architectural organization, the concept seeks a clever
way to innovatively blend different needs and overcome the general
disadvantages of typology. Thus, it aims to be a place to visit, not just a
facility.


Proposed circular scheme defines a
protected central courtyard and constructs the spaces around it. With this
approach, unlike the traditional typology’s organization parallel to the road,
it becomes possible for indoor and outdoor spaces to avoid highway-related
noise and pollution problems and create an inner oasis surrounded by charging
points and activity spaces.


The overall
experience is organized around five key themes for visitors during their time
in the Circle.


ReCHARGE!
AREA hosts eleven fast-charging stations and twenty-two charging points in
total.


ReFRESH! AREA as the first and largest indoor space includes a market, dining
areas, multiple food and beverage kiosks and service units such as toilets,
kitchen and technical rooms.


ReCREATE! AREA is an indoor space dedicated to tech-themed creativity and play for
kids and adults.


ReTAIL!
AREA is a shopping row with multiple stores.


ReLAX! AREA becomes the heart of the complex as an outdoor public space with
lush vegetation and rich landscape features for people to enjoy and interact. 


The proposal
aims to achieve a concept that offers an iconic existence with a simple yet
powerful architectural form. The large green canopy floats above the spaces and
functions below acts as a source of clean energy by integrated solar PV panels.
Together with its wooden structure and planted roof, it rises as a landmark for
the sustainability and generates the energy needed by the facility. 


The main
indoor areas are housed by two separate pavilions covered with mirrored surface
panels and glass facades that aim to blur the boundaries with the inner and
outer environmental characters. The space between built-in volumes provides
sheltered semi-open areas for outdoor activities and charging stations during
the changing seasons. 


Circular
orientation, beyond being just a functional choice, refers to concepts such as
unity and interaction that reflect the collective efforts needed for a
low-carbon future.


The Circle describes a layered
experience that could take place in one EV charging break. While rethinking
existing architectural typologies of mobility, it reflects new possibilities
bringing people and technology together around a more sustainable future.

Fosil yakıtlı araçların terkedilmesine dönük çabalar ve gelişen
elektrikli taşıt teknolojileri ile birlikte önemli bir küresel dönüşümün
eşiğindeyiz. Bugün karşı karşıya olduğumuz büyük iklim krizi ve çevresel
kaygılar, her zamankinden daha radikal karar ve eylemleri kaçınılmaz kılıyor.


Otomobil endüstrisi uzun yıllardır atmosferik kirliliğin en
önemli aktörlerinden biri. Endüstrinin hayatlarımızı hızlı ve dramatik bir
şekilde dönüştürmesiyle kentlerimizi, ilişkili olarak altyapıyı ve hayatlarımızı
on yıllardır taşıtlara dönük planladık. Özellikle 20. Yüzyıl boyunca hızla
gelişen teknolojinin tüm olumlu etkileri ve kazanımları, otomobilleri günlük ulaşım
rutinimizin ve kentlerin kaçınılmaz bir parçası haline getirdi.


Bugün ise endüstri, yaşanabilir bir gelecek için yeşil
dönüşüme öncülük etme çabalarıyla kendi tarihini yeniden yazma arayışında.
Elektrikli araçlar, her yeni yıl daha ulaşılabilir ve daha yaygın hale geliyor.
Bu mevcut gerçeklik birçok farklı disiplin için de yeni soru ve sorumluluklara
işaret ediyor.


Tasarımcı ve planlamacılar olarak bu önemli dönüşüme nasıl yanıt
vermeliyiz?


Daha sürdürülebilir ve daha sağlıklı bir gelecek için altyapı ve
geleneksel tipolojilerimizi nasıl yeniden düşünebiliriz?


The Circle, elektrikli
araç sahipleri için yenilikçi ve sürdürülebilir bir buluşma noktası yaratma
hedefiyle, ziyaretçilerin çeşitli işlevleri bir arada deneyimleyebilecekleri kompakt
bir şema önerisi. Tasarım, otoyol dinlenme ve akaryakıt istasyon alanlarının geleneksel
tipolojisini, farklı lokasyon ve kapasiteler için uyarlanabilecek esnek ve
yeniden boyutlandırılabilir bir mekansal sisteme dönüştürmeyi amaçlıyor. Önerilen
60 metre çapındaki versiyon ile yeni nesil EV istasyonları için tekrar
edilebilir bir prototip simüle etmeyi hedefliyor.


Konsept, biçimsel yaklaşımından mimari organizasyonuna, programın
çeşitli alt parçalarını yenilikçi bir yolla uzlaştırmak ve geleneksel tipolojinin
dezavantajlarının üstesinden gelmek hedefiyle yalın bir sistem tarifi
arayışıyla şekillenmiştir.


Önerilen dairesel şema ile korunaklı bir merkezi avlu
tanımlanarak mekansal programın bu kamusal odak çeperinde yorumlanması
hedeflenir. Bu yaklaşımla, geleneksel tipolojideki yola paralel organizasyondan
farklı olarak, iç ve dış mekanların otoyol kaynaklı gürültü ve kirlilik
problemlerinden kaçınabilmesi, şarj noktaları ve aktivite alanları ile çevrili
bir iç vahanın oluşabilmesi amaçlanmıştır.


Öneri sistemde ziyaretçi deneyimi, ilişkili beş ana tema
etrafında kurgulanır.

ReLAX! AREA ise ziyaretçilerin
açıkhavada bir araya geleceği, etkileşim ve rekreasyon odaklı bir kamusal alan
olarak genel deneyimin odağıdır.


Tasarım, yalın ancak güçlü bir mimari geometri ile ikonik
bir karakter arar. Eğimli geniş saçak, altında çeşitli mekan ve işlevleri
biraraya getirirken, entegre güneş panelleri ile birlikte temiz enerji kaynağı
olarak da işlev görür. Ahşap strüktür ve bitkilendirilmiş çatısı ile tanımlı silüet,
bir sürdürülebilirlik simgesi olarak yükselir.


İç mekanlara ev sahipliği yapan iki ana hacmin, geniş şeffaf
yüzeyler ve yansıtıcı cephe kaplamalarıyla birlikte çevresel karakter ile
bütünleşik hafif kütleler olarak var olması düşünülmüştür. Saçak altında pavyonlar
arasındaki boşlukların tanımladığı yarı açık alanlar, şarj noktaları, sirkülasyon
ve çeşitlenebilir dış mekan aktivitelerine ev sahipliği yapar.


Önerilen dairesel kurgu, yalnız işlevsel bir seçim olmanın
ötesinde, daha yaşanabilir bir gelecek için ihtiyaç duyulan kolektif çaba ve
etkileşim gibi kavramlara da referans vererek; insan, teknoloji ve mekanı eş
unsurlar olarak ele alır.


The Circle, bir
elektrikli araç şarj molası süresince gerçekleşebilecek katmanlı bir deneyimi
mümkün kılmayı hedefler. Mevcut mimari mobilite tipolojilerini yeniden
düşünürken, insan ve teknolojiyi daha sürdürülebilir bir gelecek etrafında bir
araya getiren yeni olasılıkları simgeler.

Cemeteries
are unique typologies for planning and architecture, as they evoke intense
feelings of visitors. They serve as stages for both farewells and remembrance,
representing the journey between death and life, loss and memories. Creating
such a space goes beyond practical needs for burial or movement. It requires
creating a series of sequences in which emotions and ritual needs flow
simultaneously.


How
can we redefine an irregular and hilly piece of land into a place of memorials blended
into the nature ? 


Can a cemetery be more than just a field of tombs in a row ?
How can we create a catalog of remembrance units that are smaller in size and
deeper in their emotions?


The proposal for the New Cemetery in Berane seeks to address these
questions by creating a serene landscape that seamlessly integrates natural and
physical elements. The aim is to let visitors experience the space with an
uninterrupted and tranquil emotional and spatial depth.

Berane
is a city surrounded by the scenic rural character of the northeastern part of
the country, settled along the Lim River with a modest population of of approximately 30,000. The new cemetery is
planned on the northeast of the city center on a sloppy terrain surrounded by
agricultural fields and rural views. The characteristics of the location,
topographical conditions, and a common central structure will serve both the
Orthodox and Muslim cemeteries become the main inputs of the overall approach.
The cemetery's design aims to create a dialogue between the natural and
fabricated elements and redefine the area as a public park. 


The
main structure sits at the southern end of the plot, running in a
northeast-to-southwest direction and blending seamlessly into the natural
topography. It contains a chapel, a ghusl room, administration offices, and
other essential services.
&#38;nbsp;


Individual
units of the building program are arranged around an internal square, which is
covered by a large green roof. The central structure offers a panoramic view of
the surrounding site from both ground and roof levels, creating a buffer zone
between the two cemeteries and an outdoor space with lush vegetation. 


The
circulation is designed to follow the natural flow of water, collecting and
transferring it to reservoir points that will serve as water features. A main
promenade creates multiple enclosed loops for different phases of the project,
defining the main spine of pedestrian and vehicle flow. 


&#38;nbsp;


The
burial plots varies in slope and orientation due to the relationship between
the project boundary and the main promenade. To maintain harmony and
consistency with the concept, the project suggests using various types and
sizes of Burial Rooms instead of defining the entire terrain to cascade in one
direction. These rooms will settle into the existing slope, creating smaller
sub-plots and spatial diversity. The tombs maintain their eastward orientation
but vary in size and type, making it easier for families and visitors to locate
their graves and feel a closer connection to their loved ones during their
visits. Secondary pedestrian links parallel to the slope will connect the
Burial Rooms to the main promenade through straight paths.

Mezarlık ve anma
mekanları, ziyaretçilerinin duygu yoğun deneyimleri ile geleneksel ve dini
ritüellere dönük ihtiyaçlara bir arada ev sahipliği yapan oldukça özgün
tipolojilerdir. Vedalar ve kavuşmaların sahnesi olurken; hayat ve ölüm,
kayıplar ile hatıralar arasında yolculuk ve ilişkinin fiziksel arka planlarına
dönüşürler. 


Karadağ’ın kuzeydoğusunda, mütevazi ölçekte bir kent
olan Berane için geliştirdiğimiz yeni mezarlık önerisi, mevcut doğal peyzaj ile
mekansal unsurların birbiri içinde eridiği uyumlu bir birlikteliği hedefler. Bu
yolla ziyaretçilerin, bütüncül ve kesintisiz bir yalın mimari/fiziksel dünyanın
parçası olmaları amaçlanmıştır.


Proje alanı; tarım alanları ve kırsal manzarayla çevrili,
eğimli bir arazi parçasıdır. Yerin özellikleri, topografik koşullar ve hem
Ortodoks hem de Müslüman mezarlıklarına hizmet edecek ortak bir merkezi yapı, &#38;nbsp;tasarım içeriğinin ana çerçevesini tanımlar.
Öneri, söz konusu geniş alanı yapılı ve doğal çevre arasında kurulacak
diyalogla birlikte bir kamusal açık alan olarak da anlamlı kılma hedefini
merkeze alır. Topografya ve defin alanları ilişkisini parçacıl anma
mekanları ölçeğinde kurgulayarak birbirinin tekrarı şeklinde sonsuz mezar
alanları şablonunun ötesinde bir ziyaretçi-mekan deneyimini mümkün kılmayı
amaçlar.


Ana yapı, arsanın güney ucunda yerleşip,
kuzeydoğu-güneybatı aksında uzanır ve mevcut topoğrafyaya kesintisiz
eklemlenir. İçinde Ortodoks cemaat için taziye odaları (şapeller) ve krematoryum
gibi birimler ile Müslüman cemaat için bir gusül odası, taziye alanları ve
abdest mekanları içerir. İdari ofisler ve ortak servis mekanarı ile birlikte
geniş sirkülasyon akslarının ayırdığı parçacıl birimler bir merkez toplanma
alanı etrafında ve geniş yeşil çatı altında bir araya gelir. Merkezi yapı, hem
zemin hem de çatı kotundan alanın geniş panoramik manzarasına açılarak, iki
mezarlık arasında bir tampon bölge ve zengin bir peyzaj alanı tanımlar.


Geniş proje alanı içinde ana dolaşım, suyun doğal
akışını takip edecek, toplayacak ve mikro sulak alanlar olarak işlev görecek
rezervuar noktalarına iletecek şekilde planlanmıştır. Mezar alanlarına ulaşımı
sağlayacak ana omurga proje etaplamasına uyumlu bir şekilde &#38;nbsp;yaya ve araç
akışının merkezi unsuru olur.


Proje sınırı ile ana sirkülasyon omurgası arasındaki
ilişki, eğim ve yönelimi farklılık gösteren mezarlık parsellerini tanımlar.
Tasarımın ana çerçevesiyle ilişkili olarak, tüm araziyi tek bir yönde
teraslayacak bir makro müdahale yerine, çeşitli tip ve boyutlarda anıt
birimleri; ‘Odaların’ araziye dağılımı önerilmiştir. 


Odalar, mevcut topoğrafyanın
değişken karakterine göre şekillenir ve alan içinde özgün ölçek ve konumlarına
evrilecek şekilde yerleşir. Sınırları alçak istinat duvarlarıyla tanımlıdır. Bu
bölümlendirme stratejisi, mevcut arazinin doğal topografik ve peyzaj
karakterini korurken, ziyaretçilerin de defin ve ziyaret alanları ile
kurdukları ilişkiyi mekansal ölçeği tanımlayarak derinleştirir. 


Önerilen bitkilendirme stratejisi genel konsepti destekler
ve güçlendirir. Proje alanı sınırı ile mezarlık birimleri arasındaki çeper,
yoğun ağaç grupları ve minimum düzeyde bakım ve su gerektiren alçak yer örtücü
bitkilerle birlikte yeşil bir tampon görevi görür. Ana sirkülasyon omurgası
çeperinde görece kısa, renkli ağaç türleri ile hacimli bir yüksek çalı ve bitki
çeperi önerilmiştir. Yerel türlerden seçilecek çalı ve yüksek bitki grupları,
ana omurgaya mekansal bir etki kazandırır ve ana sirkülasyon ile odalar
arasında yaşayan/canlı bir sınır tanımlar. Mezar odalarının lokasyonlarının
güçlü vurgusu için her anıt biriminin arasına tekil selvi ağaçları
yerleşecektir. Odaların içerisinde ise kabir alanları arasında
renkli çiçekler ve çalılarla süslenmiş bitkisel kaideler yer alır.

MOURNING, MEMORY, AND HOPE


Monuments and their associated memorial spaces define a special category within architectural typologies. While constructing narratives around social events, figures, or periods, they stand out not only through their physical and spatial qualities but also through the emotional experiences they evoke in visitors. Going beyond mere functionality, they hold the potential to create a world of meaning that keeps collective memory alive.


In our proposal for the competition, we sought to draw upon the site’s existing character through a simple yet powerful narrative. We prioritized establishing a story that allows for a layered emotional and physical experience. It was important that visitors could move beyond being passive spectators. In this way, the event at the core of the memorial could become central to the experience—through both its spatial setting and its symbolic representation.


In terms of site strategy, we aimed to transform the area with limited intervention by preserving the existing level relations that strongly reflect the topography and history of the Botanical Park. We revisited the existing terraces adjacent to the entrance area—both in terms of material and access—and envisioned the memorial mass as a new link between the entrance level, the terraces, and the circulation within the park.


The physical design of the monument was guided by three key concepts, or stages: MOURNING, MEMORY, and HOPE.


MOURNING represents the path where we remember our losses by name, defined by a sharp rupture from the urban scale.
MEMORY signifies the space of commemoration, rooted in its spatial context and shared presence.

HOPE embodies our collective heritage and belief in the future.


By seeking spatial expressions of these three concepts, we aimed to create a public space where visitors could experience remembrance both individually and collectively.


Like a fine incision embedded into the project site, two parallel walls rise at street level as the physical representation of the Monument and Memorial Space. At the same time, they serve as a narrow passage in contrast to the wide panorama and openness, channeling the emotional narrative of tragedy and loss at its core. Within the overall silhouette of the park, the memorial seeks visibility and monumentality by openly existing as something belonging to another era and function. Without disturbing the existing tree texture, this narrow incision, gently opening onto the street level, invites the city into its interior.


The dark, expansive walls are split at the entrance square level by a bridge. From this linear opening that cuts through both walls, a viewing balcony extends toward the city panorama. In this way, the partially screened view of the capital is returned to its citizens, while simultaneously the city’s journey—closely associated with the Republic—finds meaning within the narrative as the stage of HOPE. The forecourt defined at street level is also envisioned as a gathering space for commemorative ceremonies.


Along the passage that carries visitors between the walls to the terraces, the names of the lost, along with the places and dates of their martyrdom, are inscribed. The existing terraces reached by this route are redefined as a new sub-focus within the park—transformed into a memorial garden through renewed landscaping and material character. As described in the section titled Letter from the Future, the design settles at the edge of the park as “a deep wound that opens quietly, only to close silently again.” The memorial mass, clad in dark natural stone, glows like a lantern when illuminated—marking its presence from both the valley and the street at varying heights.

YAS, YAD VE UMUT


Anıtlar ve ilişkili anma mekanları, mimari tipolojiler
içinde özel bir kategoriyi tanımlar. Odaklandıkları toplumsal olay, kişi ya da
dönemler üzerinden bir anlatı inşa ederken, yalnızca fiziksel ve mekânsal
nitelikleriyle değil, aynı zamanda ziyaretçilerde uyandırdıkları duygusal
deneyimlerle de öne çıkar. İşlevselliğin ötesine geçerek,&#38;nbsp; kolektif hafızayı canlı tutan bir anlam
dünyası yaratma potanisyeli taşırlar.


Yarışma için geliştirdiğimiz öneride, yalın
ancak güçlü bir anlatı ile alanın mevcut karakterinden beslenmeye gayret ettik.
Anıtın, katmanlı bir duygusal ve fiziksel deneyime imkan veren bir anlatı
kurmasını önceledik. Ziyaretçilerin 
yalnızca seyirci konumunda olduğu pasif birer unsur olmanın ötesine
geçebilmesi mühimdi. Bu yolla anıtın merkezine aldığı vak’a, hem fiziksel mekan
hem de işaret ettiği semboller yoluyla deneyimin kalbine yerleşebilirdi.


Alan kullanımında, Botanik Park’ın topografik
karakter ve mazisini iyi yansıtan mevcut kot ilişkilerini muhafaza ederek,
sınırlı bir müdahale ile dönüştürmeyi hedefledik. Giriş alanı bitişiğindeki
mevcut terasları malzeme ve birbirleri arasındaki erişim noktasında tekrar ele
alıp; anıt kütlesini giriş kotu, teraslar ve park içi sirkulasyonu arasında
yeni bir bağlantı olarak hayal ettik.
&#38;nbsp;


Anıtın fiziki tasarımını yönlendiren üç temel
kavram ya da evreyi; YAS, YAD ve UMUT olarak belirledik. YAS, kayıplarımızı tek
tek isimleriyle hatırladığımız, kent ölçeğinden keskin bir kopuşla şekillenmiş
bir rotayı temsil ederken; YAD, mekansal bağlamın tam içinde ve bir arada
olduğumuz anma alanını; UMUT ise ortak miras ve geleceğimize dair inancımızın
temsilini üstleniyor. Bu üç kavramın mekânsal karşılıklarını arayarak,
tasarımın bütününde ziyaretçilerin anma sürecini hem bireysel hem de toplumsal
düzeyde deneyimleyebileceği bir kamusal alanın ortaya çıkmasına gayret ettik.


İnce bir kesik gibi proje alanınına yerleşen
paralel iki duvar, cadde kotunda Anıt ve Anı Mekanının fiziki temsili olarak
yükselirken; bir yandan da geniş panaroma ve açıklığa tezat bir dar geçit
olarak, merkezine aldığı trajedi ve kayıpların duygusal anlatısına hizmet
ediyor. Parkın genel silueti içerisinde, başka bir dönem ve başka bir işleve
ait olduğunu gizlemeden var olmayı ve anıtsallığı ile görünürlüğünü bu yolla
kazanmayı hedefliyor. Mevcut ağaç dokusuna müdahale etmeksizin yerleşen bu dar
kesik, cadde kotunda zarifçe açılan formuyla kentliyi içine davet ediyor. 


Koyu renkli geniş duvarlar, giriş meydanı
kotunda bir köprüyle yırtılıyor. İki duvarı delip geçen bu doğrusal açıklıktan
kent manzarasına doğru bir seyir balkonu uzanıyor. Bu yolla, alanın kısmi
olarak perdelenmiş başkent panaroması kentliye geri verilirken, aynı zamanda
şehrin cumhuriyetle özdeşleşmiş yolculuğu da genel anlatının UMUT durağı olarak
anlam kazanıyor. Cadde kotunda tanımlı ilişkili meydanın, anma törenleri için
bir toplanma alanı olarak da kullanılması öngörülüyor.


Ziyaretçileri duvarların arasından teraslara
taşıyan geçitte kayıplarımızın isimleri, şehit edildikleri yer ve tarihler yer
alıyor. Bu rotanın ulaştığı mevcut teraslar ise yeniden ele alınmış peyzaj ve
malzeme karakteriyle bir anı bahçesi olarak düzenlenip park içinde yeni bir alt
odak olarak tekrar tanımlanıyor. ‘Gelecekten Mektup’ isimli bölümde de
tariflendiği şekliyle tasarım;&#38;nbsp; ‘sanki
açıldığı gibi sessizce kapanıp gidecek bir derin yarık...’ olarak yerleşiyor
parkın çeperine. Koyu renkli doğal taşlar ile kaplı anıt kütlesi,
aydınlatıldığı saatlerde vadi ve cadde yönünden farklı yüksekliklerdeki bir
fener gibi ışıldayarak işaretliyor yerini.

In a city like Sarajevo, where different layers overlap for
centuries, context and traces represent both wounds and healing. Trying to
overcome the ghost of a lost monument with its vitality, the competition area
resembles the holistic story of the city after its not far tragedies.


The design aims to overcome the current challenges of the
site and create an ecologically and socially sustainable public space that
remembers and evokes its unique character. Thus, it aims to define an urban
catalyst that will have power to inspire not only its environment but the
entire city


The concept is structured around
the idea of redefining the existing void of the demolished Ottoman ‘Hastahana’
as an urban plaza and creating a strong accessibility with the surrounding
context. It aims to re-spatialize and commemorate the lost heritage in this way
by creating an elegant canopy structure that functions as a sheltered gallery
space, framing and emphasizing the void. Thus, it aims to bring a modest
landmark to the modern city, that can host exhibitions, art events, concerts and festivals within. 


A continuous promenade, oriented parallel to the neighboring
Austro-Hungarian urban grid, defines the main circulation within the park
together with a grand urban staircase, partially removing the existing
retaining wall facing Marsala Tita Street. This intervention opens the elevated
park surface and the plaza to the city with a strong connection.


The
eastern half of the park, seperated by the urban promenade, functions as a
sports and leisure oriented zone. The area, accompanied by meadows with lush
vegetation, creates an inner oasis for active and passive recreation. While the
central and southern part of it becomes a large green space as an ecological
microenvironment, the northern edge is planned to be home to the sports and
play area, which includes a playground, half court, skate park and outdoor
table-tennis. 


The overall strategy aims to create an accessible urban space
for people of all ages and to activate the potential of the site and its
citizens with maximum interaction. While preserving its ties to the identity
and history of the place, it offers a wide variety of activities and events.

Saraybosna gibi, farklı tarihsel ve kültürel katmanların iç içe
geçtiği bir kentte izler ve bağlam, kentin taze sayılabilecek yaralarını ve geleceğe
dönük iyimserliğini aynı anda temsil eder. 
Osmanlı, Avusturya-Macaristan ve
Yugoslavya dönemlerinin oldukça farklı dünya görüşleri, kültürel-sosyal
yapıları ve kentleşme gelenekleriyle meydana getirdiği şehir hala Balkanlar ve
Avrupa’nın en zengin kent morfolojilerinden biri olarak tanımlanabilir.


Öneri tasarım, alan içindeki yıkılmış tarihi Osmanlı
yapısından kalan boşluğu bir kent meydanı olarak tekrar ele alır. Yitirilmiş
bir mirastan arda kalan ‘boşluk’ korunaklı bir galeri mekanı olarak işlev
görecek metal kanopi strüktürü ile çevrelenirken, kayıp mirasın izi bu yolla
tekrar mekansallaşır ve anıtsal bir anlam yüklenir. Önerilen kentsel plaza,
genel yaklaşımın birincil katmanını tanımlar. 


Proje alanına komşu, Avusturya-Macaristan döneminin
rasyonel kent gridine paralel bir yaya omurgası ise ikincil katman olarak alan
genelindeki sirkulasyon ve erişim noktalarını tanımlar. Kent tarihinin farklı
dönemlerine referans veren iki ana katmanın kesişimlerinin yarattığı iç, dış ve
ara mekanlar ise park genelinde hedeflenen mekansal katalogun ortaya çıkmasına
olanak verir. 


Yarışma alanı, güneyindeki yoğun kentsel akstan daha
yüksek bir kota oturur. Park ve meydanın bu önemli aksla kuvvetli ve kesintisiz
bir ilişkisinin sağlanması hedefiyle mevcut istinat duvarının kısmi olarak
kaldırılıp, geniş bir merdiven ve kentsel amfi olarak iki kotu uzlaştırması
önerilmiştir.&#38;nbsp; 


Sürekli yaya omurgası, park alanını Tarih&#38;amp;Kültür
ve Spor&#38;amp;Rekreasyon odaklı iki alt merkeze ayırır. Alanın batısındaki
kentsel amfi, plaza ve onu çevreleyen mimari strüktür farklı kültürel etkinlik
ve organizasyonlara dönük bir mekansal anlam kazanırken, doğu yönündeki dilim
doğal peyzaj ağırlıklı karakteri, geniş çayır ve spor alanları ile aktif-pasif
rekreasyon için kent içi bir vaha olarak düşünülmüştür.
